How we started Gandhi Restaurant Gravesend
Situated at 66 West Street, Gravesend, our building was formerly known as the Fishermans Arms, a public house established circa 1791. In 1996, and after a long 200 years of history, it closed its doors and opened as The Gandhi.
The Gandhi’s Indian restaurant in Gravesend, founded by Sham and his brother, was established with the aim of providing local residents with a superior Indian restaurant experience. It stood apart from the late-night pub clientele that many local restaurants had been accustomed to, offering a place where patrons could savor authentic Indian cuisine with family and friends in a relaxed and cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Shortly after its opening, due to high demand, the Gandhi introduced a take-away service that maintained the same high standard of quality as the restaurant. In 2012, they went a step further by introducing a FREE delivery service. The Gandhi’s culinary expertise also extended to outside catering, where they catered to a variety of events, including corporate gatherings, family occasions, quiz nights, and even weddings.
Today, the Gandhi’s Indian restaurant in Gravesend has earned a stellar reputation in the local community, widely recognized as providing the finest Indian dining experience for miles around. They continually strive for perfection, always working on new and innovative dishes to satisfy even the most discerning customer.
The Gandhi’s air-conditioned restaurant can comfortably seat up to 80 guests, making it the ideal choice for intimate dining for two, as well as accommodating large groups and parties. For those seeking an exceptional Indian restaurant in Gravesend, the Gandhi remains the premier choice for an unforgettable culinary experience.
We Create Flavour
When while the lovely valley teems with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among. the tall grass by the trickling stream.
What Our Customer Says About Us
The best dining experience I’ve had in Kent
Trip advisor, John23Kent, Gravesend“I eat out at least once a week and am a huge fan of Indian cuisine. Working in the food industry I’m quick to criticise. But the service, food, style everything was spot on. I love trying different indian restaurants but I’ve already decided my next one will be here. The menu is extensive and well priced”

Consistently great food
Trip advisor, Smartbloke, Gravesend“I thought it about time I gave this restaurant some praise after visiting for many years and being served delicious food. Whilst many Indian restaurants have opened and closed their doors over the years, The Gandhi has survived on their excellent local reputation for serving excellent food with a varied and interesting choice of dishes. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and seems to be buzzing weekends, so you will probably need to book. The restaurant has a 5 star food safety rating from the local council. Try it, you won’t be disappointed”

Amazing flavours!!!!
Trip advisor, Flissyflu, Gravesend“We went to visit last minute for my birthday with my partner, stepson and a friend. As we entered the restaurant the smells that greeted us were very inviting. We decided to order a few dishes and share on this occasion. My friend and I decided on a chicken dish that we wanted but couldn’t decide on a lamb. We decided to ask for some advice and the person that did, was more than happy to help. We let him choose for us. The food came out and looked incredible …. It tasted even better::)) Every mouthful was a pleasure. I would definitely recommend the Gandhi, and actually know a few friends that travel up from London to come here. If u haven’t already tried it, you must!!! Can’t wait to go again.”
